2019 Mid-Century Home Tour
Saturday, November 2nd, 2019 | 11am – 5pm
We are so excited for this year’s “Pomona Fantasy” tour. Everything on the tour is from the 1950’s and 1960’s and in the Modern architectural style. There is a lot to see this year, and a lot is an understatement.
We have four unique modern homes on the tour. Two are in Ganesha hills, one in Westmont and one in the Yorba District. These homes’ design is simple and open, with large common living spaces to bring people together, decorated with walls of glass and courtyards to help bring the outdoors in. We are incredibly grateful to the homes owners who want to share their beauty with you.
We have seven non-residential sites on the tour this year; AMOCA, Chase Bank, City Hall, Pomona Public Library, The Pomona Mall, Westmont United Methodist Church, and the School of Arts and Enterprise’s 2nd Street campus. Framed in steel with walls of glass or ribbon windows, these buildings are excellent examples of modern architecture, filled with light and air.
The buildings and homes were designed by a range of architects from the most famous working at the time like Welton Becket, to local architects like Thomas Dismukes, who portfolios may be smaller but whose structure are no less remarkable.
The wealth of artists whose work decorated these structures is impressive. First and foremost we have Millard Sheets whose work decorates several building on our tour. His friendship with other artists brought more treasures to Pomona from Albert Stewart, Betty Davenport Ford to Jean and Arthur Goodwin Ames.
The Progress Gallery will have a special show focusing on these artists’ work and the day of the tour.
So we enthusiastically invite you to come and see the best of Mid Century Modern Pomona on display. The tour runs from 11am to 5pm, but it is large, so feel free to pick and choose what is most interesting to you. Check in and day of tickets sales will be at the Pomona Civic Center Plaza.
This is our main event…proceeds go to the Grant Program!
See you on November 2nd!
